hinese Calligraphy is a type of art that brings everyone of us to the world of formation, design and style of every Chinese character that is written on Xuanzhi using the life and the power of the brush and ink.
Unlike other CCAs, Calligraphy allows everyone, under no pressure, to express our thoughts and minds in black and white. Not only the choice of words used, but also the line, the stroke that all come from our heart and mind.
To cultivate young budding calligraphers and provide them with an insight to the history and rich culture of our ancestors, our young calligraphers have been taught the different calligraphy style originating from the different dynasties such as Clerical Script from Han dynasty, Cursive Script and Regular Script that emerged between the Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period.
By introducing Chinese painting and other different forms of Chinese calligraphy, we spark the aesthetic interest in our students. Calligraphy not only allows one to express their minds and thoughts, but also enables them to build their own characters and learn some tips such as patients, neatness and most of the things learnt cannot be found in textbooks.
Furthermore, the merger with the Art and Design Club allows our members to further expand their horizon. They are given a chance to experience western painting and comic art, which are new to the members. This in the other hand sparks their creativity to create and implement new designs and teaching every one of us to explore every new possibility that awaits us.
In preparation for the up-coming competitions, the club members had been honing their skills. In the West Zone Calligraphy Competition, we achieved a sliver award for the group category and all four of our participants clinched awards in the competition. This gives them the confidence to strive for better goals, putting their best foot forward, not fearing of any obstacles passing by.
In addition, one of our members had the chance to present his work to a guest-of-honour. During Speech day 2008, one of our calligraphers, Yin Mo Zhi. P.S. shhhh...but we are also the secret society of arashi and je fangirls*wink wink*
